About Polly Dicta

The origin of the name Polly Dicta is “Polly”, the common name of a parrot, and “Dicta”, the part of a judicial decision that is the judge’s editorial comment.  Polly Dicta is a term to define the process of voicing a common message to elected officials through the expressions of grassroots activists in the form of blog postings, letters to the editor, White Papers, and survey results.

Many Americans do not feel they are able to take part in their government because we do not have real representative democracy; we govern where the special interest groups with the most money control the decisions.  In a real representative democracy the leaders elected by the people are accountable to the people and thus act in the people’s interest.  America is facing major challenges that need our leaders to put the interests of the people first, not the interests of those with the funds to support the next election.  Our elected leaders do not spend enough time listening to us when defining the direction of our government.  The time has come for working Americans to set the agenda for our leaders, not the leaders we hired through election to set the agenda for themselves.

My goal in this blog is not to promote a specific political philosophy or to convince people to behave a certain way.  My aim is to motivate people who do not feel represented to take charge and become Champions of Democracy.  Our government and the institutions it supports have moved away from the principles of representative democracy, the foundation of our way of life.  The time has come for the people to demand their interests have priority.   I will write on two major themes: (1) government reforms and (2) citizen involvement (or creating Champions of Democracy).

I will be talking about government reforms required for our people to take part and the second theme, how we can shoulder the responsibility of having that participation and making America a better place for all of us.  I need all of your support in the form of comments, writing your own White Papers, and participating in events so we can advance real democracy.
